Empowering Developers: GitHub Now Available on Azure CSP

What is GitHub?

GitHub is a cloud-based service enabling users to store, share, and collaborate on code projects. Widely utilized by developers and organizations alike, it serves a variety of functions, such as:

  • Code sharing: GitHub is a social networking site for programmers that allows developers to share code files with each other.
  • Project management: GitHub provides project management tools that adapt to a team as their code evolves.
  • Collaboration: GitHub allows multiple people to work on a project simultaneously, which can help reduce the risk of conflicting work.
  • Tracking changes: GitHub allows users to track and manage changes to their code over time.
  • Code review: GitHub allows others to review code and make suggestions to improve it.
  • Showcase work: GitHub allows users to showcase or share their work.
  • Research: GitHub can be useful for developing research.
  • Web page building: GitHub can be used to build web pages

What was announced?

Microsoft has broadened its service offerings by making the complete GitHub product line available as metered services on Azure and beginning last month GitHub can now be billed via an Azure subscription on the Cloud Solution Providers (CSP) program. This includes GitHub Enterprise (GHE) and GitHub Advanced Security (GHAS), as well as GitHub Actions + Large Hosted Runners, Codespaces, GitHub Packages, and Storage. Customers can now enjoy a streamlined billing process, the convenience of on-demand self-provisioning and pay-as-you-go pricing, and greater availability of GitHub products through additional Microsoft channels. Billing is based on usage; therefore, if a user begins utilizing a license seat within a month, customers are charged proportionally for that month without any obligation for subsequent months.
